Dental implants are a means of restoring missing teeth and stabilizing loose dentures. The success rate of dental implant treatment is ever-rising.
Dr H.S. Mohamed of Lincolnshire Smile Clinic trained with some of the world leaders in implant dentistry e.g. Dr. Hilt Tatum Jr., the former President of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), and Prof. Manuel Chanavaz, the Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology Department at the University of Lille in France. Dr. Mohamed is a Member of both the Association of Dental Implantologists (U.K) and the AAID.
Titanium dental implants are simply screws that are inserted in the bone of the jaw to replace the root of the missing tooth. They are left to heal for a period of 4-6 months and then restored takes place using appropriate procedures. These can include crown bridges or as a support for loose dentures.
As teeth are lost for whatever reason, the supporting bone and gum shrink and dentures become loose and uncomfortable. Also, chewing certain foods can become increasingly painful. Implants can provide the right support and stability for normal function.
When single teeth are lost in an otherwise intact and healthy mouth, the alternatives are either a removable denture or fixed bridge. However, many patients sometimes poorly tolerate removable dentures and fixed bridges require the removal of enamel from adjacent teeth. Implants may be the only treatment option, and can provide many patients with superior function and aesthetics.
The images below illustrate some of the possibilities available using titanium implant surgery.
